As i said earlier in one of my comments I had thought that Catherine would come back to Mr. Heathcliff. Earlier in the story she did not treat him as she once had after going through her change. I believe that the change that Catherine was the start of a downward spiral. Later on she forces herself into a self tramatized emotional state. She is becoming more and more confused on if she married edgar for the right reasons. She still loves Mr Heathcliff.

I predict Catherine will eventually come back to Mr. Heathcliff in the end. Catherine’s love for Mr. Heathcliff is much to strong

Does anybody else agree with the prediction. If you disagree please comment what you think the outcome of the situation will be.

Period 1: hTale of Two Cities: CW: Blog 2

February 21st, 2009 — 11:38 pm

Mr. Lorry:  Mr. Lorry is in the midst of a marriage problem and the trial.  Mr. Lorry is a witness in the trial, where Darnay is found not guilty.  Mr. Lorry is “competing” against Darnay and Mr. Stryver for Lucie’s hand in marriage.  Lucie is really keeping the men in suspense about which man she will choose.  Mr. Lorry seems to be the “go-to” guy in this book.  Many people seek his advice on important matters and he is definately an important character in this book.  Do you think that Mr. Lorry has a good chance of marrying Lucie?

Darnay:  Darnay was in a trial for treason.  He was convicted for having alliances with both England and France.  Darnay was found not guilty.  Darnay is also one of the three men who is trying to marry Lucie.  Do you think that Darnay being found not guilty will give him a better chance of marrying Lucie?

Mr. Stryver:  Mr. Stryver is one of the three men wanting to marry Lucie.  He’s a wealthy man and sought after advice from Mr. Lorry about marrying Lucie.  Mr. Stryver is very sad when Mr. Lorry tells him that both Dr. Manette and Lucie will reject his asking for Lucie’s hand in marriage.

Carton:  Carton is talking to Lucie more freely about his life now.  He tells her that he would do anything for her, including give his life for her.  Lucie then tells him that he needs to “start a new life” but he says that he can’t.  I think that Lucie may want to marry Carton, what do you think?

Lucie:  Lucie is debating whom to marry.  She is trying to decide between Mr. Lorry, Darnay, and Mr. Stryver. Dr. Maneete (her father) has been giving her advice on the marriage situation.  Lucie also participated in Darnay’s trial, because she knew him previous to the event.  Who do you think that Luci ewill decide to marry.

Monsieur the Marquis:  Monsieur the Marquis is a selfish, powerful, rich lord.  In this part of the book Monsieur the Marquis kills a boy when he runs over him with the coach that he is riding in.  He reacts to this event by throwing money on the ground and riding on.  What do you think that this event symbolizes?  How does Monsieur the Marquis’ actions to this event reflect his personality?

Dr. Manette:  Dr. Manette has been advising his daughter on who to marry.  Dr. Manette and Lucie agree that if Mr. Stryver were to ask fo Lucie’s hand in marriage they would decline the offer.   He also was in Darnay’s trial because he knew Darnay previous to him being charged with treason.

Who do you think that Lucie will marry and why?  If you think that Lucie wants to marry someone that her father doesn’t want her to: who do you think it is, why does Lucie want to marry them, and why would her father not want her to?

So far in the story we still do not know the narrorators name. In chapter 6 he takes a more general view instead of his own expeiriences. In chapter 7 he seems to be going crazy becasue he cannot remember much about what has happened and is going on. In chapter 8 the narrorator collects himslef and starts analyzing the events that are happening. The narrator points out the irony in that, on the brink of their collapse, the old habits of the social order are as strong as ever. The narrorator seems to be foreshadowing in the 9th chapter when he uses the color red to describe the red glow. This foreshadows the future bloodshed to happen. In the 10th chapter when the thrid cylinder falls the narroartor seems to be even more intruiged my the martians.

questions:

If you were the narrorator would you be interested in teh martians or would you stay away becasue of the danger?

The narrorator seems to represent order in the story, what does it mean when he starts to become crazy?

Erin Campbell

In the first five chapters of the story the main characters name is unknown.  What is known is that he is an adult male that seems to be in the upper class.  We can assume this because he knows things about meteorology and associates himself with higher level society.  When he finds out about the capsule that landed on earth near him, his interest is sparked and he goes to see it as soon as possible.  He is definately one of the braver people because he approaches the capsule with the other men (including Ogilvy and Henderson).  This seems to diminish a fair amount when the capsule opens though, when he backs up.  So my question to you is if you think the main character is brave or a coward?  Also do you think this will stay the same through out the story or will it change?  In other words if the you think he is brave will he become scared, or if you think he is already scared will he become courageous?  Use facts to back up you view.

The Bean Trees Chap 1-4, Post Two, Period 3

The character that I am going to look at is Taylor. Her personality is very unique, flipping to one objective to another so quickly that it is hard to identify with her. Her basic outline was laid out very quickly and accurately by Barbara Kingsolver. Taylor is very headstrong, taking the reins of her own future and not really letting anyone have an influence on where she is going. Actually, I believe that she is not quite sure where she is going in life. Her thoughts and actions have been influenced by indirect forces, for instance, the tire exploding, which created her fear of putting air into tires. Another indirect influence was actually one that Taylor was aware of: The scenery of Kentucky.

My question to you is somewhat related to Kianat’s, yet still has its own uniqueness. What could have possibly been an indirect influence on Taylor to have her except Turtle (the child)? Why do you think this? How could Taylor’s personality affect the way that Taylor might raise the child?

Right, that is all that I have for you!

The character that I would like to look at is Thomasin Yeobright. She is the niece of Mrs. Yeobright and had been away from her home because she was to be married. Her aunt did not approve of the marriage. After she changed the location of where she would like to be married on the day of her wedding, her groom forgot to get a new licence for the new location. So it seems to me that Thomasin is a spoiled girl, and always has to get what she wants. Although the fact that they have to postpone their wedding is embarrassing, why are they trying to hide it from the rest of the towns folk? They planned to get married the following day, so it really shouldn’t be such an ordeal. Why is Thomasin along with her aunt so intent on hiding this from everyone else?

The War of the Worlds, Chapters 1-9, Post 1, Kody Bell

February 9th, 2009 — 06:18 pm

In this section of the novel we see that the story is told in first person.  The narrator is a main character but his name is not revealed in the first nine chapters.  The narrator believes that he first saw the capsule that lands on Earth being shot off about three days before the landing.  He then describes himself walking with his wife the next night, and the night that it arrived he was in his study working with his windows wide open.  If he would have looked up from his desk while working he would have saw what seemed to be a meteorite flying through the sky.  But he didn’t look up so he didn’t see it.  When the capsule opens the narrator was the one of the people who was standing there watching. He was also one of the first to recognize that there was a threat.  One of his best friends was the first to be killed by the martians Heat-Ray. After this happens he knows he must take his wife and get away from the city. So he goes to the innkeeper and rents the innkeeper’s dog cart and horse. He then takes his wife and their maid and goes to Leatherhead, a town where his wife’s family lives. The way the narrator acts throughout this section, he seems to be in an upper class and feels he is better than everyone else. The narrator seems to be enthused by science and astronomy. What do you think he will do when the capsule finally opens? and why do you think he will act this way?
