Much Ado About Nothing: Connector: Maddie Zinn
The last two Acts (4 and 5) were very interesting. They made for a very mysterious end to the book and then it had a happy ending. The plan that the Friar concocted with Leonato and Hero reminds me of the plan the the Friar made with Juliet. In both situations it was to help the case of their marriage.
In what ways are the plans from Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing similar? Different?

I think they are similar because they both in the end help them out and make them both happy. Yet they are both very different. There is no pretending to be dead in this play, which in the long haul is better. It is also different because this plan works out in the end, where as in Romeo and Juliet the plan fails and both end up dead.

Ok I couldn’t figure out how to fix a typo so I wanted to say in both plays the plan includes pretending to be dead. But in each case it is different. In Romeo and Juliet it is to make Juliet free to be with Romeo. Yet in this play it is to make Claudio feel bad. Sorry Guys!

Well, they are similar in the way, like Lauren said, that they both involve faking death. The plan was made to deal with a wedding of some sort, whether it was the Epic Fail wedding, or the secret wedding, it still involved a wedding of some sort. In both stories, they people getting married ended up together somehow, even if they both died or lived, they were still together in spirit. The only difference would be that one couple died and the other didn’t. Good connection Maddie…thank goodness this is finally over because I can’t afford to fail anymore blogs!!!!

In both plays, as Maddie pointed out, a friar assisted to lovers in saving their relationship. Another similarity between the two plans is the level of deceitfulness in both. The plans trick and to some degree even lie about what is really happening in the situation. In Romeo and Juliet, the plan leads to the characters’ deaths and to their marriage in Much Ado About Nothing. In Much Ado About Nothing, the plan is much less risky than the plan in R&J. Overall, R&J’s plan was much more dangerous whereas in Much Ado About Nothing, there was almost no level of hazard in the plan.
