The Taming of the Shrew DD Post 2

Acts 2 and 3 focused mostly on the wedding of Petruchio and Kate, with a side focus on Bianca’s suitors. Petruchio and Kate were married very quickly, and it was against Kate’s will. Petruchio also came to the wedding in attire that was not befitting of the occasion. At the wedding, he misbehaved. He hit the priest and swore. Bianca’s suitors have started fighting amongst themselves, although not physically yet. What do you think of Petruchio’s actions at the wedding? Was he doing this to try to get Kate to behave, or was there a different motive? Who do you think is the best suitor for Bianca to marry? Finally, what do you think of Kate being married against her will?

I think that Petruchio’s actions are horrible. I think that he has some other motive that we don’t know yet. I think that even the money issue was fake and that he does not even really need it. What he is planning to do I do not know yet. I think that the best suitor for Bianca is Lucentio. I think they seem to get along with each other and he seems to be madly in love with her. I think that it is wrong for Kate to have gotten married against her will. She should have a say in her wedding. She should be able to say if she wants to get married or not. If she knows she will not be happy she has to have the right to not marry.

I think that Petruchio went too far with his actions. I think that he is acting this way to get Kate to behave. By giving her a taste of her own medicine, he thinks that she will become a much nicer woman. I think that the best suitor for Bianca to marry is Gremio. He is the only one who is being honest. The others are either pretending to be someone they aren’t or are using tricks. I think that it is sad that Kate didn’t have a say in her marriage. She didn’t seem to like Petruchio at all, but they were married very quickly. It seems that her father did this so that the men could marry his younger daughter, Bianca, more quickly.

I personally disagree with Taran and think that Petruchio’s actions at his own wedding were not really that bad and that he had good reason for doing it. My idea of why he did this is because he could have been trying to show Kate how he could also misbehave and be spontaneous much like herself, and this could help them to become closer and eventually end up actually liking each other. Another reason why he could have acted out could be because he was trying to show how he could be controlling and kind of mean so to show Kate that he would be a man in their marriage. What I mean by this is that maybe he wanted to make this marriage actually work so he wanted to make her listen to him by being kind of bossy and demanding. And my last possibility to why Petruchio acted like he did is that maybe he had wanted to bail out on his plan to marry Kate but he had already made a deal with the other suitors so instead of leaving he maybe wanted kate’s dad to not let her marry him.

There could be many reasons for why Petruchio acted out so terribly during the wedding. My reasoning for his behavior is that he wants to show Kate how much an idiot she appears to be when she acts in such a matter. I also have to agree with Sonam in saying that it is also probably to show to Kate that he has the power and that she will learn to behave correctly. Trying to connect to Kate in this way, by showing her that he understands her will cause her to love him. Going back to the idea from one of the other posts… her being neglected causes her to act out, but by him understanding her will probably mean so much to her because she has never experienced it.
As I said in one of the other posts, I think that the best suitor for Bianca is Lucentio. He is both very kind, and her father approves of him. This makes him seem the most likely of the men.
Finally, I think that Kate being married against her will is not right. Though it was very common for the time period I do not believe that your life should be chosen for you. Part of me thinks that Kate and Petruchio’s wedding will work out for the best though. I see the possibility that they will fall in love with each other in the end.

Currently I am nuetral with the actions that Petruchio did. For one, what goes around comes around. She wanted to beat up on Bianco and now Karma is getting back at her. Well I disagree with Erin becuase as the great Derick said, Love is non-existant so they will continue to fight.
