Taming of the Shrew PD. 3 DD Paula Ferrara
Ok, so I think we can all agree that this play has become even more dramatic. Lucentio and Hortensio have begun their courtship battle over Bianca and it seems Bianca has taken a liking to Lucentio. Petruchio and Kate have gotten married…but in the most bizarre way.
Bianca and Lucentio seem to have a relationship blooming, but there is one small matter that stands in their way: the lie Tranio pulled to win Bianca from her father. How in the world are they going to pull off someone acting as Lucentio’s father and promising money he doesn’t have to an expecting Baptista?
Now on to the big topic, Kate and Petruchio. Why in the world did Petruchio dress and behave the way he did for his wedding? If this is part of his idea of ‘taming’ Kate, do you think he’s going a little overboard? Also, when he was late to the ceremony, Kate is crying when she exits. Why is that? She never wanted to marry Petruchio. Shouldn’t she be happy?
Kate and Petruchio or Bianca and Lucentio? After what’s happened in this scene, which couple do you think is going to be happier together?

Bianca and Lucentio:
You’re right, I don’t know how they are going to pull it off, but I know that “Lucentio” is going to end up spilling the truth somehow, I mean it makes perfect sense. Everyone always ends up telling the truth in the end.
Kate and Petruchio:
Well obviously Petruchio had something very important that he needed to get back to something. He wouldn’t miss this marraige. And he wouldn’t dressed like that. And I don’t know if this has something to do with the taming, I mean at least be a man, say your “I Dos” and then be a phsyco. I am kind of confused. You know what Paula, what happens in alllll the fairy tales. THEY FALL IN LOVE, AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. I think that Kate has fallen in love with Pet. This question is given. The only other reason why I would think that she would do this is to pretend to her dad. But for all that he has put her through I don’t think that she would get that into it. And my only other reason would be that she finally thought that she was going to marry and prove everyone in the town that she infact is not a “shrew” and her hubby to be was a no show. EMBARRASSING!
I think that Kate and Petruchio are going to live happily ever affter, because they started out with a tough relationship, and it just seems to picture perfect with Bianca and Luciento. (:

Ok I don’t know where the other two are so I’m going to comment anyway.
To the first question, I have no idea how they’re going to pull it off either, but it sounds like a recipe for disaster. This seems like the kind of predicament where something totally unexpected happens where the plan completely falls apart. HAHA wait i got it, Lucentio and Tranio find someone to stand in for Lucentio’s father, then Lucentio’s real dad probably shows up and ruins the plan. But if Vincentio is anything like his son, I think he will give the couple his blessing to be married.
I think Petruchio acted the way he did to begin the ‘taming’ of Kate. At first, when I read all the stuff he did, the way he acted, and how he dressed, I thought he was taking the taming too far. But then I realized, Kate is a strong-willed, stubborn, and serious shrew (oooh alliteration!). She needs something totally unexpected and dramatic to catch her off guard in order to subdue her and the way Petruchio acts is the perfect thing.
The reason Kate started crying was probably because she was truly sad. Kate already thinks the world is out to get her, so when this guy comes along who wants to marry her despite her hard exterior and cold taunting, she sees it as a ray of hope. But when Petruchio fails to show for the wedding, she is heartbroken.
Personally I think both couples are going to be equally happy. Bianca and Lucentio love each other but are hitting a few obstacles in trying to get together. Kate and Petruchio don’t love each other but are forced into marriage. The two situations are completely opposite yet absolutely the same, if that makes any sense. But either way, I think both couples will see happy endings by the end of the play.

For your first question, we don’t know how this is going to play out yet, but my guess is that they will come up with some clever plan as Shakespeare always does.
As for Petruchio’s behavior, i think that he probably is going a little overboard and doing something very mean by what he did at the wedding, but he also knows how hard it will be to tame Kate and this is all just part of him breaking her down. Who knows, perhaps Kate will give in and the good side of Petruchio will be revealed. And for the question about why Kate was crying: even though she absolutely despises Petruchio, i think that every woman probably wants to have her wedding day be special, even Kate, so when he ruined it like that he crushed the last of her hopes in the process.
I believe that things will end much differently than they are going now. It seems that now that Kate is married and out of the way, Lucentio is free to marry Bianca. But how often do things turn out the way they are supposed to? My guess is that whatever we think will happen now, such as Bianca and Lucentio living happily ever after and Kate and Petruchio being bitter with each other throughout their lives, will turn out exactly how do not expect things to happen.
