Much Ado About Nothing-CW-PD3
First of all, I am so happy Shakespeare decided to show his funny side and write comedies because MAAN is a great play. I hope everyone is fully understanding and enjoying it as much as I am.
Okay this week I would like to start off by making a connection to the title. This connection is pretty obvious but ‘Much Ado About Nothing” is directly connected to the story in the fact that these two groups(males & females) are making a big fuss about love and trying to get people together by saying things behind their backs they purposely hear-example-Act 3 Scene 1.
Another connection I thought about was the comparison of Dogberry and Verges to the 3 Stooges. Although there are only two in this comic duo, Dogberry and Verges are the ones we laugh a little bit more at in this play. The two plays off each other and their chemistry is great, Dogberry tears Verges down when he is on the job with him. Moe was always picking on Larry and Curly during an episode of the three stooges and doing funny comical acts that I could expect to see Dogberry and Verges doing in MAAN.
Did you think Dogberry and Verges were funny?
I think they are very funny, like I said before I imagine them like the Three Stooges and can see them doing funny acts.
How do you feel about the whole “behind their backs, but they are suppose to hear” situation?
I actually believe this to be a good idea. Beatrice and Benedick won’t tell each other their feeling so they might as well find out for themselves, with a little help from their friends.

Dogberry and Verges were very funny. Your, right now it is a comedy. I believe there is some irony in these characters. Their careers call for skill and is serous. While they are funny and never do anything right. These two also can get the reader to lighten up. Thoughout the entire play I was focused on drama. These two give me a break from that.
Next, I do believe that tricking Beatrice and Benedick is the only way that the two will admit that they like each other.

You are right about the irony, Julian. I think the cops take their jobs seriously but funny things just keep happening to them and they alwyas do the wrong thing in a situation.

Your connections are very true, Rebecca. Also I could relate the title to the idea that these two sides (again male and female) are creating a lot of drama, such as the fake Hero incident, and love, with Beatrice and Benedick, when none of these things really happened at all. Your connection to the three Stooges also is very relating.
About Dogberry and Verges, yes they are pretty funny. They do tend to lighten the mood a tad. I do though, continuing what Julian had said, think that they are not as careful with their job as they should be.
Lastly, I think that the whole “behind their backs” thing is wrong. Even though it may be bringing the relationship between Beatrice and Benedick together, their love will never be true love because all the things that they are saying are not true. Also I think it is horrible what they are doing to Hero and Claudio’s marriage.

I already knew that this was a comedy because of Beatrice and Benedick, but these two characters put some more comedy to this play. They have the role of enforcing laws and what not and they go off and goof off. They are goofy, andthey do not fit the role at all. I know I could not keep a straight face in that interrogation room.
It is for the best because they need love in their lives. They are so uptight, and for love to come in their lives it would only benefit. We could see that they already knew they liked eachother, but this was only reassurance.
