Taming of the Shrew period 1 Connector Taran Copenhaver
Welcome back guys. To start off, I am a bit confused. Why there would be a play in a play I don’t know but I am sure I will find out.
In the beginning we see Lucentio desperately wants Bianca that he devises a plan with Tranio that they should take each others places. Lucentio seems to bee our hero searching for love. He said he fell in love with her when he first saw her. This kind of reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. I know it is a very weak connection considering they were both written by Shakespeare but it honestlyseems to connect to romeo and Juliet. Lucentio the Romeo and Bianca the Juliet, the other suitors the Paris figure and Tranio kind of like the Friar. Stop me if I am wrong because I am still confused but this is what I found. Although I don’t know how Sly’s play fits into this one. The Juliet figure and the Romeo figure are again both rich. Bianca is a maid like Juliet was going to be a nun and that might prevent them from being together. Finally,Traino is helping Lucenito be with Bianca just like the Friar help Romeo and Juliet to be together.
If this is like Romeo and Juliet will there be a tragic event that will occur and what might it be or do you think I am way off track and think that none of this will happen. Thanks in advance.

Well, Taran I would just like to say that I do agree with you about this story relating to Romeo and Juliet. However, I don’t want to be a downer but I think you could have found a better connection because like you said these two plays were written by the same author so there will be some major similarities. To go even farther we can see that there is a lot of trickery in both of these stories. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are tricking their parents by not telling them about their “love”, and in The Taming of the Shrew the suitors were trying to trick someone else into marrying katharina. So Taran, sorry for one upping you, but I thought I should have told you what I had noticed.
I think that there will be a very tragic event in The Taming of the Shrew. The reason why I think this though isn’t only because it is similar to Romeo and Juliet. I think that something tragic shall happen because they are all trying to do something underhanded and most writers make it so that people that do things that are underhanded end up getting what they deserve.

I do not think that there will be a tragic event in The Taming of the Shrew. This is a comedy, and comedies do not end with tragic events. With that said, there might be some fighting. There are many men who are going after the same woman. This will most likely result in at least some violence when one of the men does not get their way. There might also be some violence involved with the man trying to win the elder sister over. Since she is known for being violent, something could happen. In conclusion, I do not think that there will be a tragic event since this is a comedy. Romeo and Juliet had a tragic event because it was a tragedy.

First off I would like to say these are late because I was in Philadelphia at my grandmas house all Saturday and I only got home at 5ish today. I would have done them all Friday, but I did not know I was going until Saturday morning. Also, my grandma does not have internet. I know you do not like excuses, but I think that this one should be acceptable. Plus, I am not even sure they are do at 5 I think that they were, but maybe it was only 8. Great, now I am confused.
Again, it’s very hard to answer when you know the outcome…
Anyway, I was going to say the same thing as Colin. This is a comedy, and therefore a tragic ending does not seem likely. What is more likely to happen is an ironic ending that is not expected. Most comedies include a twisted conclusion, which is one of the biggest items that create a comedy. What I will not say is what this ending might be. I would have to agree with Taran though in saying that there so far are a lot of similarities between the characters. If this were to be a tragedy I would also assume that there would be a terrible ending, but because it is not I do not think it will be very similar to Romeo and Juliet.

I dont think that they relate very much. They are written by the same auther and he often uses the same literay devices and what not throughout all of his plays. I think that this is a completly different play. If it wasnt, why would he duplicate Romeo and Juliet?
