She hates men because they rule everything in society at this time. Kate wants to be able to make her own decisions, and be independant. I believe that the hate she feels for men comes from how her father treats her and how the other men in her town treat her. They treat like she is some "mutt" living on the streets, and she has just learned to hate them in return. I also believe that in the end Petruchio and Kate will fall in love with eachother. I think that Kate will learn that there are men who do not treat like she is an animal, but an actual person. I also think that Petruchio will find that he can love Kate for being independant and free. But in the end I think they will love eachother. -Kody I think that Kate just wants to be free. Petruchio is going to go in there and pretend to love her, but in the end he is going to fall in love with her. And she will fall in love with him. I think that Katherine has such a disliking of men becuase of the way her father treats her. She has been treated like dirt from her father, and all of the other men in the town don't want to be with her because she is a "shrew". I just think that because men don't like her she has lost interest in them, and despises men because of the way that they treat her. Similar to the Color Purple. Kate seems to be a very headstrong woman who speaks her mind at will. Obviously this has been a turn-off to men who then turn to her quiet sister and fall for her instead. Assuming that Kate acted this way when she and Bianca were younger, I'd say that over the years, as Bianca got more and more attention from guys, Kate grew envious and began to loathe and bully her sister, which probably caused her father to seem protective of Bianca and aggressive towards Kate. Because of hatred for her sister and maybe even her father, she began to hate the men who paid so much attention to Bianca, which then caused her to hate all men in general. Soon her anger spilled over and she became what she is in the story, a shrew.
