Much Ado About Nothing: Maddie Zinn: Connector
Hey guys. I’m a little confused, Lauren and Megan are both in my group, but Megan blogged on All’s Well That Ends Well, and Lauren blogged on Much Ado About Nothing. I think our comedy was Much Ado About Nothing, so that’s the one I’ll blog on.
In Acts I and II of Much Ado About Nothing, Don Pedro is trying to help hook Claudio up with Hero. Don John is trying to break them apart. This plot reminds me of the story of a movie called Drive Me Crazy, where there is a girl and a boy who end up falling in love with each other when they meet each other through a friend they both have. Unfortunately the the girl and boy came from two very different groups of friends, and they friends try to break the two up by telling the one nasty rumors about the other. Fortunately, the two stay together but I don’t know how this story will end.
What do you think are Don John’s motives for trying to break up Claudio and Hero? Does he truly just want to be mean, or do you think he has another motive [maybe Hero]?

Yeah, sorry. I posted on the wrong play! Anyway, yeah I have never seen the movie but it sounds like a similar situation. Another movie it could be connected to is, I know this is corny but, High School Musical! In the first movie, Troy and Gabriella fall in love and because there is a large difference in their “cliques” their friends try to break them apart. I don’t really know what Don John’s motives are. I do not really think that Hero is the reason because if he truly loved her, he would not try to hurt her in any way. I think that because he was neglected by his brother, he is bitter and just wants to be mean.

Megan, you take the words out of my mouth! I was thinking about High School Musical as well while reading Maddie’s post. I have seen Drive me Crazy and it does remind me of Much Ado About Nothing. I honestly think that Don John is just mean and cruel. I think that he hates to see you people in love and having a happy and healthy relationship. I think that he is also jealous because Hero and Claudio are happy and he never had that, which makes him bitter.

Oh my gosh you guys, I was trying to decide whether I should use Drive Me Crazy or High School Musical as an example!!! Great minds think alike.

Okay, well I wasn’t really thinking of High School Musical when I read this post, but it does fit the scenario rather well. I am just going to assume that I am not the great mind in this case…lol. Well down to business. I think that maybe Don John is jealous because he doesn’t want his friend Claudio to be happy. Maybe he is jealous because he isn’t happy therefore he doesn’t want anyone else to be happy. Or another situation could be that he loves Hero too and just wants her all for himself. I do not know for sure at the moment, but the first scenario seems like the more likely one.
