Much Ado About Nothing DD Alexander Berresford Period 3
Much Ado About Nothing seems to be a simple love story. We also know that it is a Shakespearean comedy. This is set up through act 1 and 2 by Benedick and Beatrice. Also another important part to the story is the party, which is directly connected to Romeo and Juliet. What we need to do is analyze the first 2 acts of this comedy.
We see that the story takes place in a small town called Messina. Leonato is the leader of the people and he is very grateful for the army to come back. It consists of Don Pedro, Claudio, and Benedick. When they arrive in Messina they are warmly welcomed by the citizens of Messina. Also it was love at first sight as Claudio laid his eyes on Hero, Leonato’s daughter. Do you believe in love at first sight? I think that Hero may be very beautiful, which would make everybody like her at first sight. I do not believe that love can exist in first sight, because love is more than just seeing. Now, we see that a big ball is going to occur later, so a mixed identity is going to happen. Don Pedro and Claudio are switching places so that “Claudio” can win over Hero. I feel this is wrong, because it could cause problems and if she likes you, she should like you for who you are not for who you are not.
In the opening scenes of act 2 we see that this plan may backfire because everybody thinks Don likes Hero. Once again mixed identities seems to be an important part to this play. Also in this act they seem to be tricking Benedick into liking Beatrice. They set him up which in my mind does bot seem like a good idea. All this lieing could really effect a lot of people. What do you think of the matter? While all of this is occurring Don John is setting up an evil plot to mess up all of these love plans. Don John is also the brother to Prince Don Pedro. So we see that loyalty is also a theme throughout these first couple scenes, which in my mind I would all ways be loyal to my friends and family. Why would Don John do such a thing? In my mind he is jealous of how his brother is prince. It was not very clear how he became prince though.
This play is classified as a comedy, and this is showed by both Beatrice and Benedick. This can be said because every time they talk to one another they start fighting by calling each other names. Very funny? Yeah it is because they are a bunch of mature people fighting like little kids. What do you think of the name calling?
The last thing that needs to be talked about is what is your thoughts on what should be changes? I think that it should be the mixed identity thing. I know that Shakespeare is thickening the plot, but I would like to see if Hero would like him for himself. We already know that Hero like “Claudio” but is it for real? What would you guys change in this enjoyable comedy.

I’m not sure if I believe in love at first sight or not. I think it could work for some people if both the male and the female feel the same connection between each other. In this case, Claudio does not know much about Hero at all, and he doesn’t know how she will act towards him. Therefore, I’m not sure if this relationship is completely love at first sight or not, and I’m not sure if I totally believe in it or not. Also I agree that this is wrong, because Don Pedro might appeal to Hero in a way that Claudio cannot.
I agree, also. I do not think that the lying is going to do any good. The lies are going to confuse everything up, and no one will know who to believe. About Don John… I think he may simply be trying to ruin the relationship between Claudio and Hero because either he also was attracted to Hero, or he is jealous of his brother and the friendship he has with Claudio.
Yes, the name calling is very immature for these people, but imagine this play being a movie. It would be pretty comical. Also, I think that this name calling could be flirting. What do you guys think?
One thing that I would like to change about this comedy would be to stop Don John from ruining the relationships that are going to be occurring. He is just jealous that he has no one for himself. It is somewhat annoying. I’d rather get on with the story and find out if Beatrice and Benedick will ever get together and if the marriage between Claudio and Hero will last.

Oh this question seems to popping up everywhere this school year… yes, I do believe in love at first sight to some extent. If you love the way some thinks when you first meet them, it is love at first sight. If you love the way some looks, it is love at first sight. If you love hearing someone’s voice when you first meet them, it is love at first sight. These are all different forms of love at first sight and I think there isn’t one type of “Love at first sight,” but many different forms and different feelings that come with each of them.
Don Pedro wants to help Claudio be with Hero, right? Don Pedro may have a bigger role than Claudio but I think that Claudio will appeal more to Hero.
I don’t think anything of this matter because no one is tricking Benedick into liking Beatrice. They are always fighting but two people that disagree can end up together, they are just being extremely witting with each other. And Leah’s response basically sums up what I was going to say…
The name calling and constant bickering between this soon to be couple is cute. Guys, they are just flirting with each other…
Okay, Leah hit the nail on the head. I really wish we could get on with the story and leave Don John in the dirt and find out what happens.

Leah is right, this question must have been asked a thousand times this year. I do not believe in love at first sight. To love someone you neded to know them. Love is also about the person personality and mind. You can not love someone just by looks. This would be pretty shollow.
Next, I believe that what you are trying to explain are rumors. This is exacly what is happening in this play. THis is what happens with Beatrice and Benedick.
Your right Alex, when Beatrice and Benedick fight it is funny. They always insult each others looks and smarts. They are exaclty like little kids. We don’t even know why these two are fighting. We do learn that the two have been fighting for a while. Beatrice says that the last time they argued Benedick lost four of his five wits. She says this before Benedick is introduced. So we know they have always have been fighting.
