Pd.1 Taming of the Shrew Word Watcher/summarizer

Induction Scene 1:

The lord of a house finds Sly, a beggar asleep in front of a lords house, at which point the lord decides to play a trick on him.  He tries to convince him that he is actually a lord by dressing him up and everything.  Their reasoning for forgetting about his life is because he got sick and then lost his memory.  That night they decide to see a play.

Induction Scene 2:

Sly wakes up to find himself in the lords house being welcomed back from a long illness.  After some tales being told to him, he believes that he is infact a lord.  This part of the show opens the actual “Taming of the Shrew”.

Act 1 Scene 2:

The play opens to a scene in Padua where a man named Lucentio is entering.  We are also introduced to Signor Baptista (played by Seth in Kiss Me Kate haha) and his two daughters, Kate (My wifey, Katrina =]  ) and Bianca.  Bianca has two suitors wanting her hand in marriage, but the father, Baptista will not allow her to marry until after Katherine is married.  This is a problem because Kate is not the most friendly person, to say the least.  It is not believed that anyone will ever fall in love with her.  During Baptista’s problems Lucentio falls madly in love with Biance and he convinces to switch lives (for the time being) so he can be a tutor, and therefore be closer to her.

Act 1 Scene 2:

In this scene we meet Petruchio, a friend of Hortensio.  He tells him of his financial problems and says that no woman is bad enough, if she has money.  Because of this he agrees to (attempt) to woo Kate.  Hortensio too now is disguised as a music teacher for the Minolas.  So now we have three suitors for Bianca, Gremio, Hortensio, and Lucentio, and one man attempting to court Katherine,  Petruchio.  Keep in mind that this is the play that Sly is watching.

    1. Of the suitors I don’t think she will choose any of them. I know this condradicts what I said in my blog but she has already seen at least all three of them and she did not fall in love instantly possibly. I think that when she sees Petruchio she will fall in love with him and vice versa. He is a character that is willing to marry for the wrong reason. One would think that he has to change in some way. He could be a dynamic character that we follow through the story and become attached to.

    2. No because of what I said before. I think he will meet her and he will actually not want to marry her because of her personality. I think that he will fall in love with Bianca and want to marry for love.

    3. I do not think that marrying Kate would be worth her personality because it might get me out of financial problems but it won’t make me happy if she is always upseting me.

Well Giddy, to answer your first question I would like to say that, like Taran said, that Bianca shall not end up marrying any of the suitors that have their eyes on her. The reasoning for this is because Bianca hits me as the same kind of person as Juliet. What I mean by this is that Juliet didn’t want to marry the person given to her, she wanted to truly fall in love. And due to the fact that Bianca seems similar to Juliet and also due to the fact that these two stories were written by the same author it may happen the same way as in Romeo and Juliet.

Now to get to your second question, I personally do not think that Petruchio will carry out his plan to marry Katharina. The reason why is because he is planning to win the hand of someone that he had not even met. This is much like the relationship that Paris and Juliet had. The male in these situations wanted to marry someone who they had known virtually nothing about. Another reason why is because once Petruchio finds out how big of a “w”itch Katharina is he might back out and find another way to get himself out of his economic situation.

And now to answer your third and final question, I would most likely not want to marry someone for their money, no matter what the situation was. The reason why is because as Giddy already knows, I’m a teddy bear, so I’m very emotional, and would rather actually fall in love with someone rather than marrying someone for selfish reasons. To get back to the question, I think that someone even in a worse situation would not want to marry Katharina due to her horrible attitude and because the fact that she’s a “w”itch. And also if I were Petruchio then I doubt Katharina’s father would give her away to a guy in that bad of an economic situation.

    1. I think that Bianca will choose Lucentio. Lucentio has been emphasized more than most of the characters and has already established a plan. He is going to be closer to her since he is going to be her tutor. Most of the plot involving the suitors is about Lucentio and Petruchio, so it seems likely that Lucentio will win Bianca over. Petruchio wants the elder daughter because of her money.

    2. I think that Petruchio will follow through with his plan for marrying Kate. Since he only wants money, he will not care what kind of personality Kate has. It seems that he really wants money and does not care who he has to marry to obtain the money that he wants.

    3. I do not think that marrying Kate for the money would be worth her personality. People want money for happiness. Most people are not happy with a terrible wife. Therefore, you are trading happiness for material possessions that you think will make you happy. He already seems well off, so he only wants extravagant things to buy with his money.

Well i think we need to find out more about the suitors before we make any assumtions. But if anything i dont think she will find any very appealing. If she hasnt really made her mind up now, then its not very bright. Like in the Odysee, the suitors there probally dont have a chance.

He will definatly follow through with his plan. In this era money equals power and so on and so forth. If he falls in love he will marry her anyway. I think he is just greedy.

Marrying a rich person would only be worth it if she was hot. If she was not hot, and was mean, then its not worth it. Unless you could have an affiar with another hot lady. Its not a good situation. Stay away is my choice.
