The Time Machine, Erin Campbell, CW, Final Post

To start things off I would like to say, ” FINAL POST!!!! WAHOOOO!!!” Now, I insist that everybody who is reading this should have a little party of their own, just like I did.  Alright, now I guess I should write about something that I am supposed to write about. =]

In the last section of the book the frenzy, I talked about earlier, has seemed to have reached its climax and then ended.  In the previous section the Time Traveler only had the want to kill the Morlocks, but now he has.

“I struggled up, shaking off these human rats from me, and then holding the bar short, I thrust where I judged their faces might be.  I could feel the succulent giving of flesh and bone under my blows, and for a moment I was free…  I determined to make the Morlocks pay for their meat.  I stood with my back to a tree swinging the iron bar before me.  The whole wood was full of the stir and cries of them.”

This extreme change I believe is caused by three things.  It is my opinion that the most obvious reason is that the threat of his own life is in play.  In this view his actions are like a defense.  Another reason is probably because he is homesick, and can not stand the Morlocks tricks anymore.  All he wants is to retrieve the time machine and go home.  The final thing that may have changed things for the Time Traveler is the disappearance of Weena.  The way this is described you can assume that she is dead, either by fire or the Morlocks.  The Time Traveler really cared for her so this may have resulted in the Time Travelers change.  Whatever the reason may have been the Time Traveler’s mental state seems to have snapped, at least for that moment, in time.

What is also interesting is how easily the Time Traveler seems to go back to his normal (or at least as normal as he gets) self.  This happens pretty much as soon as he gets back home.   Most people, after a traumatic experiance do not recover this easily.

The final thing that I would like to point out is the reactions of the Time Traveler’s guests and then the responses followed by the Time Traveler.  After telling this grand story known of his guests believe him that it is true.  They believe that it was in fact just a story.  The odd thing is that the Time Traveler even has a hard time convincing himself that the events had actually occurred.

” I’m d-d if it isn’t all going.  This room and you and the atmosphere of everyday is too much for my memory.  Did I ever make a time machine, or a model of a time machine, or is it all only a dream? They say life is a dream, a precious porr dream at times- but I can’t stand another that won’t fit.  It’s madness.  And where did the dream come from?… It’s alright now.  The story I told you was true.”

Here are my questions as usual:

1.  What do you believe is the main reason for the character’s frenzy?

2.  Would you have snapped in this situation, or would you have stayed cool and thought rationaly?

3.  Do you think that the Time Traveler did infact time travel or was it just a story?

4.  If you were one of the people hearing the story would you believe the Time Travler?

and just for fun…

If you were to be the person to have created a time machine where would you want to travel to?  Tell of your adventures and what you see.  Be creative.

    1. I think that the main reason for the time travelers frenzy was because Weena was in danger. He probably would not have cared if he was just observing them but he became attached to Weena and she was like his family. She ment a lot to him and when something personal is done to you it is hard to let it go. He saw the destruction that the Morlocks did and he just snapped.

    2. I would have snapped I could not stand the death of a loved one by violent acts. I would definatly do something to bring justice to the one who did it.

3.I think that the time traveler was really telling the truth because his appearence was aged when he told the story and he brought back the strange flower.

    4. I probably would not believe because nothing really makes sense to just hear it, but to see him I might believe him because he does look beaten up and wiser. He even seems to act differently.

just for fun: I would go to the future just to see what was out there in the world. It would be cool to know about my grandchildren and greatgrand children. I would do it just to learn about the world and hopefully would not use it for my advantage. That is why I would go to the future if I could time travel.

    1. I think that the Time Traveller was ready to do anything to get his Tiime Machine back. He thought that the Morlocks had taken it and hidden it in the sphinx. Therefore, he was angry at them for that and for eating the Eloi. He also hasn’t been able to actively help his situation for a while. All of these things made him lash out and take action. The Morlocks were also attempting to hurt the Time Traveller and Weena, so he had to defend himself. I think that the combination of his anger, inability to act, and self defense caused him to go into a frenzy.

    2. I would have tried to stay calm, but I most likely would have gone after the Morlocks. Since there was a fire, I probably would have done the same thing as the Time Traveller. I would have found a safe place and watched the Morlocks run.

    3. I think that he was telling the truth because he brought back the flower, his appearance showed it, and the narrator saw him disappearing with the Time Machine at the end.

    4. I would probably believe the Time Traveller as he tells a detailed story. He also showed the miniature Time Machine and the flower to the guests.

I would travel to the past to see what life was like in different time periods. The medieval periods sound interesting, as well as colonial times.

    1. I would like to agree with Easter Bunny in saying that it was the fact the his work was stolen that drove him to the brink of insanity and led him into his frenzy. I mean, he has obviously been working on this whole time travelling plan for a while now and for everything to be taken by these tiny human-like creatures it’s not odd that he was driven to a frenzy. I also agree with Taran though. It might have also been the fact that he had learned to love Weena and he felt the need to protect her.

    2. Well, most likely I would have completely snapped at the first sight of this future world, and it is quite possible that I would not have made it even as far as the time traveller did. I do believe that after I had freaked out then I would start to think rationally and try to find out how to control the situation. However I most likely would start to freak out from all of the pressure of finding out about how to control the situation.

    3. I do think that the time traveller did in fact time travel. The reason why is because he is a very intelligent person and he most likely he could have made up the whole story by theorizing about what the future might end up being like, but then the question arises; Why would he do this? It’s quite obvious that the time traveller likes to get down to business so why would he waste his valuable time thinking up fairy tales?

    4. Most likely not. The reason why is because as I believe I mentioned before, due to the fact that the time traveller was gifted with the gift of abnormal intelligence it would make him harder to believe because it most likely would not be very difficult for him to make up something if he wanted to. And another reason why is because this story took place in the early 1900’s when the very idea of time travel was preposterous, so I probably would be scoffing at the idea before he started.

    5. If I had been the one who made a time machine I would have to say that I would like to travel to the post-revolutionary war America. This seems odd but my reasoning makes a little bit of sense. The reason why I would travel to post-revolutionary war America is because I would be able to see the creation of a nation, and help to build the foundation of one of the greatest nations on Earth. Also it would be interesting because I would be able to meet the very people who created our nation.

    1. so much time in a strange place he is probablly going crazy. He has nothing to turn to nothing he is firmiliar to.

    2. I would have snapped the second I got there. I would have never calmed down I would probablly die from a heart attack in the first 5 min.

3.I think he did infact travel time because he came back with his knuckles cut up dirt and stuff on the time machine and all the memories. Also, he dissapeared at the end.

4.Well probablly not because it does seem like really out there and not real. So I would be very skeptical.

    5. I would probablly not go travel because i would be ready to and i would chicken out so that kinda blows that idea.
