The Time Machine Pd. 1 Connector Post 3 Taran Copenhaver
In this section of the story the time traveler is at the Palace of Green Porcelain. He is then running through the woods after he sets it on fire, being chased by the morlocks. He spends the night dazed in pure confusment. He lost his friend and the flames rage all around him. This scene reminds me of The Lord of the Flies. This scene is closely related to the scene were jack lights the whole island on fire. Ralph must run for his life in this pure confusion. They both have lost their friends and must fend for themselves. They both were the middle ground, Ralph the Ego and the time traveler the being between this light and dark.
So my questions for you are, since Ralph made it home safely with the help of the coast guard do you think that the time travel will make it home with the help of somebody else or is it all his doings? Finally the scene were he goes crazy and is pounding the ground for help begging in exasperated weakness to be clear of this horror, do you believe that this changed him in a way. Will he ever recover from this trauma or will he go crazy and loose his sense with reality? Thanks a lot. Sorry if I revealed anything.

First off I guess you did not see my post on how far to read, so I have no clue how to respond since I did not read this section, but that is okay. I will just respond based upon the information I have, and the information have given.
We obviously know that the Time Traveler will make it home because this story would not exist otherwise. What we do not know however is how he will manage this. I think that he will get home mainly by his own means, but possibly by the help of Weena. They have become quite close during his visit, and she seems to do anything that he wants of her.
I believe that his trauma of being stuck in the future may cause him some damage mentally. This I believe will pass eventually, after being back in the present for some time. He will never forget his experiences however. If anything he will tell the world about his adventure, and not be harmed by it.

Well, much like Erin said, I have not read quite as far as you did, but I shall attempt to answer your question. First off, I think that the two situations are completely different from one another. The reason why is because when Ralph was put on the island he had had companions to help him through psychological distress. The time traveller on the other hand didn’t have any companions from his time to help him cope with the situations that came up. So, since the time traveller didn’t have anyone else to help him, or a catharsis, he was bottling up his emotions, so he would act different than Ralph in a similar situation.
Second, I would like to actually answer your question. Well, I think that the Time Traveller will ask for help but nobody will be able to truly help him. The reason why is because he isn’t egotistical enough to truly believe that he can escape on his own in a world he doesn’t know, and he’s smart enough to attempt to ask for help. But the sad truth is that the Eloi are so carefree that they probably won’t be much help to him. Also since nobody else has created a time machine (to our knowledge), nobody from another time could help him.
And to answer your last question, I do think that he will be able to recover from this traumatic experience, I just think that he will need some time to recuperate and collect his thoughts. The reason why I think this is because we already saw that the time traveller can recover from near insanity when he found out that he lost the time machine. Also he will most likely have to have some kind of catharsis to help him to deal with what he had went through in that strange world. But, all in all, I personally think he’ll be just fine.
Once again, sorry that I didn’t read as far as you. I hope my answer is satisfactory.

I think that the Time Traveller will make it out with the “help” of the Eloi. By help I mean that the Time Traveller will retrieve the machine during one of the Morlocks’ raids on the Eloi. When the Morlocks are busy catching, eating, and killing the Eloi, the Time Traveller will sneak into the Morlocks’ tunnels and find his time machine.
I think that the scene where he breaks down is just his emotional release. He has all of those pent up emotions (being stuck in an unknown future world, losing Weena who is probably dead, setting the forest on fire, and being attacked by Morlocks) and is now dealing with them. I don’t think he will be affected in the long term unless he is permanently stuck in the future, which we know won’t happen. I think that it has changed him in a good way. He can now refocus on what he needs to do. He will plan to get the time machine back and head home.

The story could still exist if he doesnt make it home because if you remember in the beginning to the story the narrorator was not the time traveler.
I think he will make it home and that it will be all his doing. The morlocks would never help him and for the Eloi
that would be too much effort.
Im not sure about this whole punding the ground thing cause i didnt read it but I think he will recover from this trama but it will take time and it will only happen after he returns home, if he returns home.
