All-in Period 3 Alexander Berresford DD

To get this discussion going I want to talk about Denn and how he is holding up, Cattie’s better insight of her life, and finally the big tournament.

We now see that Denn has to enter this “Big Deal” tournament so he can defeat Artie.  He wants to do this because of Cattie.  He loves Cattie and it seems that Artie does to.   If he can win the tournament then Artie might leave her alone and it could allow for Denn to possibly go out with Cattie again.  The only problem is money.  As we go through his struggle to get money we find out that he is thinking of his family.  Why do you think he is doing so?  I think it is because Denn is coming back to reality, as he sees that Poker is his job.  I now see that Poker can be a life/job for people because it is not really gambling.  Denn shows this as he describes people throwing away their money.  Really Denn is investing his money like a business would.  What do you think of this?  I think that he is right and now he sees thediffernce between a game and a job, which casues him to see how love can be compatible with his job.  What if Denn were to continue his poker life and start to have a better relationship with his family again?  I think that this is a possibility as it seems that both Cattie and he have been thinking of love and family.

Pete has given a more interesting insight on Cattie’s life.  She is extravagant with her lifestyle, buying high-endjewelery, and gourmet meals.  which has lead to her bad childhood, with her non supporting mother.  As a child she would avoid her mother because her mother was always finding new men that would provide her with gifts in money to live.  Cattie did not like this and we see that it has impacted Cattie as she is trying to make a better life.  If Cattie had a more supporting mom then she might have had a better life then the one she has now.  What do you think of the matter?  Also, I think that what Cattie has now is pretty amazing, since she was raised by a drunken mother.  Finally, we see that she has feelings for Denn.  She is always thinking of family, which is including Denn.  Do you think that this will have a major impact in the end?  Will she have a life that will be more suitable to a normal lifestyle outside of the casino?  I think that her and Denn will have a relationship and have a normal lifestyle, with her either leaving the game forever or they both will take over the casinos.

Lastly I would like to talk about the tournament.  It is taking place at the King’s Crossings and it is Artie’s tournament.  Denn has just received money from Cattie and is going to enter, as he had already been rejected by Jimbo.  Does Denn have any friends?  Was Jimbo using him?  Is Jimbo really the bad guy in the story?  I think that Jimbo is the bad guy because of the fact that he seemed afraid that Denn would defeat him.   So he did not give him any money and I think it is complicating the ending.  I wonder how it will end.  Do you guys have any ideas?  What if it is in the finals between Artie, Denn, Morty, Frisk, and Jimbo?  Then we will have Cattie dealing.  Who would she choose to win?  Would she play it fair?  I think that she would play it fair, and then Denn would win as he would play not to just win, but to prove that love can be compatible with the game.  I also think that after Denn wins the family relationship will begin, and then he will return to Cattie. .  Or he will stay and take over all the casinos.  What is some of your guy’s thoughts?  There are plenty of possibilities that could occur, but which one do you think has the better “odds.”

P.S. Mr. Shank I thought the blogs were only due at 5 and I am still unsure about the time they are due.  Also there was no way for Leah to blog, because she does not have the book.  Rebecca has her book.

To answer your first question I would like to say that Denn isn’t really thinking of his family. He is thinking if he doesn’t make it in Vegas he will have a place to live, with his family. He only sees his family as a place to crash. We also see that Denn doesn’t care for his family when he goes to Vegas. He just decided to not be there any more. Maybe there were problems between Denn and his family to cause these dislike. Next you ask if Denn putting his money into poker is like making an investment. I believe that all poker is an investment. Like an investment poker takes risks. You also have to make tough decisions that will impact the money you make.

It sad about Cattie’s childhood. If her mother would have been different she would have a better view on money and its importance. Even though Cattie has gone through these hardships she seems to be recovering. She seems to trust Denn. She even gave him $10,000. Next you ask if Denn and Cattie hook up will they live normal lifes. I’m afraid they will always life by poker and gambling. They both love being around poker. Being together will not change this feeling towards poker.

Jimbo is Denn’s friends. He just doesn’t want to give him $10,000. would you give a friend that much money if you knew there was a slim chance they would give it back. Next, I would pick Denn to win in the final against all the other characters in the book. Denn has the most talent and can read any player. Lastly, if Denn wins it doesn’t mean he will buy all the cosinoes. He is only getting a million dollars here. A cosinoe cost A lot more than this.

***I didn’t realize Leah was leaving for Florida and I did not give her the book before leaving. Please, Mr. Shank, give her time to get caught up and blog. This was completely caused by miscommunication.

Denn doesn’t think about his family that much, Cattie thinks of her mom a lot but Denn, not so much. Denn doesn’t really care about his family, and like Julian said earlier he used them as a place to crash. Playing is poker is Denn’s “job”. He has nothing else to do all day and that is his only form of income. At the end of Chapter 32 or 33 Denn doesn’t care about the money anymore, did he finally realize that he can do other things with his life?

Cattie had a hard childhood and when I was reading this it reminded me of one of my friends because her childhood was along the same lines. Her mom had boyfriends, but was not a slut, and my friend ended up being sexually abused by her mom’s boyfriend. My friend isn’t doing so well these days and did not choose a great direction in life when choosing what direction to go. Cattie turned out pretty darn well for having a mother like that and also learned the value of money and how to save it and not blow it away. Of course she still likes Denn and I doubt they will ever have a completely normal lifestyle because they are both use to playing the slots and gambling all the time.

Jimbo is Denn’s friend. If you ask your friend for $20 and they say no, are they still your friend or are they a bad guy? Jimbo know that Denn might not pay him back and Jimbo is also entering the tournament so it would be like entering twice. Jimbo is a good person and has helped Denn out a lot in this story. I think Cattie will play it fair as a dealer but will be pulling for Denn the entire time. Why would Denn want to rule all the casinos? Again like Julian said, he is only getting $1,000,000 why would he blow that on a casino?

    Alex,
I agree with Julian and Rebecca. I did not think that Denn had thought of his family as much as Cattie did. I think that he realized that he was losing money and would soon have no place to live, along with nothing to eat. To make it a good story, I think the idea of the ending of the story you suggested would be good. Seriously thought, I’m not sure if it is possibly. Maybe Denn’s mother will come to her senses if Denn is totally a failure and has no where to go.

I definately think that in any family the mother is a good factor on how the children are raised. If you do not have a good mother, then most likely you don’t know any better than what they do. I am proud of Cattie, though, that she had come to realize her mother’s faults and chosen not to be like her. I agree also, that her and Denn will live together forever. It would not only be a nice ending to the story, but something practical and something that could happen in real life.

I doubt that Jimbo is the bad guy. I think that Jimbo didn’t give Denn the money just because he wanted to stay out of trouble and out of the situation. Lastly, I believe that the story will end with all of the main characters that we have heard about being the finals in the big tournament. Cattie will be the dealer, but this time she will go against everyone and she will make Denn win.

Thanks again, Alex, for notifying Mr. Shank for me!
