House of Sand and Fog- post 3- Connector, Brittany Miller
Well in this section, Kathy attempts suicide on her old house’s land, where the Behrani man and his family now live. Behrani finds Kathy attempting to do this and he stops her. He takes her in the house and takes care of her, he also allows her to stay there for a little while. Well, Kathy’s lover, Les, doesn’t know where she is at so he goes haywire and goes to Behrani’s house and takes them all captive as hostages.
Besides the fact that this book reminds me of some sort of soap opera, it reminds me of a movie called hostage. In the movie hostage a family is taken captive in their own home by a strange man.
My question to you is why do you think les goes this insane over some woman that he is having an affair with? Is she that important to him or is he just blinded by their spur of the moment ‘love’ affair?

I think Les ges insane because he really does love Kathy and that he never really loved his wife more than as just a friend. But, it could be like Romeo and Juliet. In that is it really that they are in love, or is it codependence?

I don’t think he is going insane so to speak. I just think that he might actually love Kathy. I think that she really is important to him, and it not just an affair anymore. He never seemed like he was in love with his wife, from the little we found out about her, but he always seemed interested in Kathy. Sarah was correct when she said this is like Romeo and Juliet because in both they are in love when it might not be the best or the right decision.

Brittany: This is another very weak connection. I mean you barely spend a couple of sentences on it and once again, your question has nothing to do with the connection! You need to deepen your connections and connect them more directly to the book!
