Grrr, I completely forgot too do this yesterday.
Okay, lets get this discussion going. So, what are you thoughts on Norah and the whole overprotective thing? Do you guys think she is overprotective solely because of the supposed death of Phoebe or is it just her. Where do you guys drawn the line with what is overprotective and what isn’t?
Secondly, what are your thoughts on Norah and Dr. Henry drifting apart? For more discussion… it seems that marriages are falling apart more and more in today’s society; do you feel this relates to Norah and Dr. Henry?
You know Mr. Shank I never knew DD was supposed to answer his own questions…

In Chapter 4 when Nick, Gatsby and Meyer Wolfshiem go out for lunch, some unexpected ideas of Gatsby comes up. As Wolfshiem continues talking with Nick about Gatsby and his wealth, he suggests that Gatsby did not come about all of it honestly. Wolfshiem leaves Nick with the impression that he and Gatsby may be involved with a certain “underground” organized crime. This idea reminds me a bit of the mafia. The mafia do favors for people and expect things in return. If you ask me, that sounds like the kind of crime, if any, Gatsby would be involved in. What do you guys think?
What kind of organized crime do you think that Gatsby is involved in with Wolfshiem, if any?
P.S.: Where page are Megan’s and Alyssa’s posts on? I can’t find them. Thanks.

Chapter 3:
By this chapter Gatsby has become quite famous in New York for his fabulous parties. He is known for hosting the fanciest parties and people practically beg to be invited. This chapter talks about one particular party that Gatsby is throwing. Gatsby invites Nick to this party and he attends although he feels awkward among the other guests. Jordan Baker is also there and she tells Nick what she knows, or thinks she knows, about Gatsby. Apparently he may have been a spy in the war and he once murdered somebody. As the party progresses people get drunk and the scene gets rather wild. Jordan and Nick meet Gatsby and the host meets with Jordan privately. When they are done meeting, Jordan is excited about the extraordinary news she found out from Gatsby. At the end of the chapter Nick decides to date Jordan despite the fact that he feels she is a dishonest person.
Chapter 4:
In this chapter Nick and Gatsby go into the city to have lunch. On the way Gatsby reveals some of his mysterious past, telling Nick his life story. The story sounds fake; there’s something strange about it and it’s hard to believe. Gatsby lists all of his unbelievable accomplishments, such as collecting treasures in Europe, and going to school at Oxford. Gatsby sees that Nick is skeptical of these accomplishments so he proves that he shows him a medal and picture as proof. As the men reach the city Gatsby is speeding and is pulled over by a cop. Instead of getting a ticket he gets out a white card and the cop apologizes for the trouble. What is this card used for and why do you think Gatsby has it?
During lunch Gatsby introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfshiem, who apparently fixed the World Series. He is a shady, unethical man and Nick does not trust him. He also begins to get suspicious of how Gatsby came into wealth. After lunch Nick goes to see Jordan Baker and she tells him about her meeting with Gatsby. Gatsby told her that he is in love with Daisy and has been since before the war. Daisy was in love with him too but married Tom and stayed faithful through their marriage although Tom did not. Apparently Gatsby moved to his new mansion just to be near Daisy, because her house is across the water. The reason Gatsby met with Jordan was that he wanted her to convince Nick to arrange a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby thinks Daisy will refuse to see him so he wants Nick to have tea with Daisy allowing Gatsby the chance to show up and surprise her.
Words:
1. Prodigality- This is being so extravagent that it is wasteful. I chose this word because I thought it had something to do with being a prodigy but I wanted to find out for sure. I found out that although it looks like it means the act of being a prodigy or something to that extent, it doesn’t.
2. Innuendo- A hint made about someone, often in a derogatory manner. It is describing how people are being introduced to eachother at Gatsby’s party. I picked this word just because it looked cool and I wanted to know what it meant.
3. Melancholy- This means depression. I chose this word because I always thought I knew what it meant but I wasn’t sure.
4. Ascertain- To find out for sure. In the book “Owl Eyes” makes the ascertian that the books in Gatsby’s library are indeed real. I chose this word because it looked interesting and it has a lot to do with the story.
5. Dissension- Strong disagreement, or a quarrel. I picked it because I was curious as to what it means.
