Anil’s Ghost- Connector: Post 2, Laurisa Varela
As I said before in my other post, this book kind of reminds me of the Civil War. But I am starting to see it differently. Now, I am connecting it to “Speak” because there are many flashbacks in the book. In “Speak” the main character was raped. She thinks a lot about that night and flashes back to that night and nights before that, when she was happy. However, in “Anil’s Ghost,” the main character regrets doing things that made her family so proud of her when what she did wasn’t all that magnificent. But Anil reminds me of Melinda in “Speak” because they are both level-headed and do not want attention for their accomplishments. What they want is to have justice, to be able to feel safe again. Like I said before, it’s kind of hard to connect this book to any other outside source because it is very unique and very interesting. My main connection is that Anil and Melinda strive for the goal of justice without too much attention, but just for safety and finally peace of mind.
My questions for you are:
1. Do you think that Anil is getting any closer to reaching her “goal?”
2. Why do you think Anil does not want to associate with her family members? Do you think she feels threatened by them, or just doesn’t want to face them after so many years of being gone and not communicating with them?
By the way Mr. Shank, sorry this connection is kind of short, but I am extremely busy…blogging on Friday’s is starting to get really hard to do…
Also guys, I have no idea why my writing is two different sizes…..sorry.

I do believe that Anil will eventually fulfill her goal of discovering who the killer of these people was. She and Sarath have asked many people to assist them and I think that they will find incriminating evidence soon. Although, since all of these operations are going on with out the government being aware, when they finally file an official report against the killer, who will most likely be a person in the government, everyone is bound to know. If they do accomplish their peace, it won’t go unnoticed.

I also think that Anil will find out who is killing all of these people. When I stopped reading, which was page 145, Anil said that the femur was the bone of choice. She learned that on her first day of college. I think she is going to find out a lot more with the femur than she is with the skull. So, in the part that we read next week, I’m pretty sure she is going to check out the femur of Sailor.
Anil doesn’t have much family left. But, she does still have a few family members left that she doesn’t talk to. I think that after losing her parents, she doesn’t want to talk to the rest of her family because they will remind her of her parents. But, even so, they could have supported her through her life. After not taling to them for years, it would be akward to just start talking them again. I would be mad if one of my family members just stopped talking to me once I moved. I mean, they did have phones and mail during the setting of this story.

Again…
This is a book…
Something has to happen in a book…
That something will most likely be Anil fulfilling her goal…
If that didn’t happen the book would be terrible, because their is no point…
I’m having trouble thinking of a sentence that is relevent longer than the last one…
Anyway, thats what I think about that.
Anil is so distant from her family because she left them as soon as she could. Her number one goal was to reach America, which she did at an early age. Once she was their, I doubt she had much contact with her family. That long distance seperation would cause her to seem distant.
