All the Pretty Horses Character Watcher: Kody Bell
In this segment of the novel i am going to look at Lacey Rawlins. Rawlins is John Grady’s best friend and the person who came a up with the idea of running away to Mexico. When the two had met Blevins, another boy from America riding south to Mexico, Rawlins didn’t like him and thought he would get them in trouble. Rawlins is right in this fact because the two are arrested because after they helped Blevins retrieve his stolen horse he went back into the town and tried to steal back his gun. When he did that he shot a man dead and he was arrested for it. Then Rawlins and John Grady were arrested because they were suspected of aiding Blevins in the shooting. On the way to the prison that Rawlins and Cole are to be in the people taking them shot Blevins.
Do you think that Rawlins was right in not wanting to ride with Blevins or do you think that he is just an overly cautious person? Also do you think that if Rawlins gets the chance to escape from prison he will take John Grady or do you think that it will be every man for himself?

I think Rawlins was right in not wanting to ride with Blevins. He could tell that Blevins was bad luck and knew that he would get them into trouble. The way that he acts, I’d think that Rawlins is definitely not an overly cautious person.
Yeah, I think he will stick up for John Grady. They started out on this journey together and chances are Rawlins is going to want to stick together.

Blevins obviously isn’t any help to the boys. If anything he is just a gnat. I think that Rawlins was right for not wanting to ride with Blevins. We can see that Rawlins isn’t an overly cautious person, he takes many risks.
I think that he will take John Grady with him. THey started this journey together, they are going to finish it to. They are best friends, I don’t think they would let each other down.

i agree with Abbey that Blevins is more of a hindrance to the two than a help, but they should still help him and let him tag along because it is the right thing to do. Even though Rawlins didn’t want him to come, John did the right thing by letting him join the group. This reveals a little about his character; he is a good and righteous person. I think that, because of the kindness they showed him, Blevins will take both John and Rawlins with him. They have become pretty close on their journey so far.
