All the Pretty Horses, CW, Kody Bell
In this first section i am going to look at the protaganist John Grady Cole. The book starts out with John arriving at his grandfather’s funeral. He is very shook up by this because he lives on his grandfather’s ranch and knows that his mother doesn’t want it. he loves the ranch and wants to take it over but she won’t here of it. Grady’s parents are divorced and they had stayed together for a while just because of John. Now John Grady was only 16 years old when all of this happened and his mother was in a play. he went to San Antonio from San Angelo to see her. After the performance John sees how distant he is from her.
My question for you is why do you think that John Grady wanted to run the ranch so badly as a 16 year old teenager and not be able to live his life a little before sttling down? And do you think that his idea to run away from home was a good idea why or why not?

I think that John Grady decided to run away because he didn’t want to settle down, not so he could. He wanted to live a more adventurous life and be a cowboy, that is why he ran to Mexico; so he could continue living that lifestyle.
I think that his running away was both a good idea and a bad idea. Nothing will make him quite as happy as living and working on a ranch will, so he is doing what will make him happy. I think it also a bad decision because he still has a lot to live for at home. It appears as if his father is going to die, and he should be there for him even though it is obvious that they do not have the best relationship. His leaving will also probably worry his mother a lot. But to be honest, i think i would have done the same thing in his position.

I think that John wanted the ranch because he loved his grandfather and it was one thing that pulled him and his gradfather together. By him losing the ranch he has also lost his gradfather. And I think that running the ranch is what John wanted to do with his live. From reading the book it seems like John loved the ranch very much.
When John ran away, I thought that it was good for him. He needed to get away from the situation that he was in. His mother and his father didn’t seem to be much of a guidence for him. And I think that it was a good way to release his anger that he had toward not being able to own the ranch.

Well Abbey if he loved his grandfather so much why didn’t he try to buy the ranch off of his mother. They could of come to an agreement on a way for him to pay for the ranch.

Because KODY, his mom hasn’t been apart of his live. It kind of seems like John was an oopsy. Because both his dad and his mom haven’t really been in his life. Maybe this is there way of getting rid of him.

Kody, don’t bother our posts with your stupid comments. Besides, there’s a lot more to the world than sports. I’m suprised that you wrote before the due date. That’s certainly not what you did with your works cited list for Tulli. When did you hand that in? A month later?

Brandon, stop being a hypocrite. You’re doing just what you told Kody not to. Shank never said we couldn’t comment on other groups’ blogs and plus Kody doesn’t deserve YOUR stupid criticism. At least he didn’t comment to put someone down. Take your own advice and stop muddling up our blog with stupid comments.
Anyway, to answer your questions Kody, I think John wanted to run the ranch because he doesn’t want anything to change in his life. That’s also the reason he runs away to Mexico. Every time something changes in his life, it seems he tries to hold on to the past or run away from it. John can’t stand the idea of changing his life so drastically.
I don’t think its a good idea for him to run away from his problems. If you keep running away from your problems, you’ll end up not being able to face anything when you grow up.

Kody, Brandon has a point. Your comment on his blog was uncalled for. And frankly I agree with him. I am an athlete who has practices on Saturdays mornings. I practice in Hershey in the high school off-season and by the time I get home, I only have about 30 minutes to write my blog. So yea, I actually like the blogs being due on Fridays.
Kody, stop putting Brandon down for speaking his mind. He actually does make some good points.
Brandon, stop insulting Kody for things he did in the past. He’s grown too much to be dragged down by insults.
