On page 158 Isabella mentions that Hindly had every intention of attending the funeral, he even kept himself sober for the occasion! But I guess the sudden soberness lowered his spirits so much that he just couldn't take it and drank anyway. I agree with Heather, Heathcliff was clearly in love with Catherine.

Even though he married Isabella, she's the only one he truly loved. I think Hindley didn't show up because he hated Heathcliff so much. Even though they are brother and sister, he still can't get over how much he hates Heathcliff for being the apple of his father's eye. It only upsets him more that Catherine chose her love for Heathcliff over the abuse of her older brother. Heathcliff obviously loves Catherine very deeply.
