1. I beleive that the aliens are real beings and they are and they use the metal beings to contol them like a tank.

2. I would belive that there would be more cylinders because that would be a pretty pathetic war with only three soldiers. We can not fight them but still it would be a pathetic war with only three soldiers.

3. three words that may be of importance are gravitational, the act or force of attraction between two bodies, desolation, being deserted, and armament, The weapons of a ship. These all seem to do with why the martians are here somehow they were attracted to our planet for some reason, They seem to want to make our planet alone and empty and they use their weapons on their ship.

1. To disagree with Easter Bunny the author did describe the martians as organic beings, but if the martians are already advanced enough so that they can travel and sustain themselves on another planet. So if the martians are so much more advanced than us how do we know for sure that these martians aren't automotons masquerading as organic beings. To agree with Easter Bunny though I also think that the tripods were armor plated vehicles meant for a certain purpose.

2. Yes, the martians had launched a total of ten cylinders as expressed by this quote, "Why the shots ceased after the tenth no one on Earth has attempted to explain." This quote shows the reaction of everyone on Earth to the martians and how perplexed they were by the flashes on Mars.

2a. A certain word in particular that caught my eye was the word circumference used in this context, "This little group had in its advance dragged inward, so to speak, the circumference of the now almost complete circle of people, and a number of dim black figures followed it at discreet distances." This quote seems insignificant, but by the author using the word "circumference" in this context it shows how big the crowd of people and how many people were extemely intested in the martians landing.

1. Well the first aliens that came out of the cylinder were more like real beings. The tripods are more like robots teh narrorator even describes it as machinery.

2. There will be more cylinders that land on Earth the narrorator even says, "I have no doubt this Thing was the third of the ten cylinders they had fired at us from Mars.

3.lightning seems to be a big part of the atmosphere. It seems whenever a new cylinder come to Earth there is always lightning.

1. The aliens are real beings. The narrator had described one of the aliens that came out of the cylinder earlier in the book. If you are referring to the tripods, they are more like tanks. It seems that they are controlled by martians but are still machines.

2. Yes, there will be more cylinders. In the introduction, there were ten flames that went off on Mars. These were 24 hours apart. They were the cylinders being launched so there are going to be 10 cylinders total. This means that there are going to be more tripods each day until all 10 cylinders have landed.

3. I think that the word contagion helped build the atmosphere of the story. It was used to describe the spreading of his wife's fears. It seems that fear is going to be spread like wildfire in the coming days of the story. The constant mention of blood (whether blood itself or blood-red) also lends to the atmosphere.
