I think that Lucie will pick Carton, and if not I think that she and him will be really close friends. She seems as though she's interested in his life and how he is trying to turn it around for the better. I think it seems almost as though she wants to make him a project, that she'll work on and try to help him be a better person...and be the person she knows that he can be. I think that Lucie will pick Darnay, once she finds out about his feelings. The reason I think this is because Darnay seems to have a genuinely good heart and he seems to be an intellectual man. He makes his living by tutoring people in French, both in the language and literature. We don't know much about Lucie, but I don't think that she is shallow and I don't think Darnay is either. If Darnay was shallow he would be in France, living off of his families riches, not renouncing them. I believe that he is a kind person because of the disdain he has for his uncle, Marquis, and the French upper class in general. He feels that what they are doing is wrong and that should be paying more attention to the people below them. He also does not like how the family name has begun to bring fear to many in the French society. It seems like he is very down-to-earth person who has a stable income and good moral values.
