It's obvious that Diggory and Thomasin had or still have a connection. They may run of together, but I'm not expecting that to happen too soon. I think in order for the two to run away to get married, something big needs to happen. Like Damon will cheat on Thomasin or Thomasin will accidentally spill that she still loves Diggory. I completely agree with Adam on the fact that the customs in this book are much like the customs in Fiddler on the Roof. I think that marrying the right person in this time period was really important because families want the best for their children, and they wanted their children to have better lives than they did. So, they pick families that they trust and they match the families' kids together. I do not agree with this type of matchmaking and i think it limits you as a person to find your "true love." And, I think that is why Diggory and Thomasin will run away, because Thomasin's family wants her to marry Damon (after all, who wants their daughter/neice to marry a reddleman)but Thomasin has feelings for Diggory.

I also think that Thomasin and Diggory will be the two that run away to get married. There relationship is generally frowned upon by the other townspeople due to the entanglement of Wildeve. I think that Marriage was so strict back then because they wouldn't let go of the silly tradition. The customs in the book are very similar to Fiddler on the Roof (FOTR 08 FTW!) which seem silly. In FIddler, customs had to be broken for love. I think thats what will end up happening in Return of the Native.

Well, I think that most likely Thomasin and the reddleman will run away together if they truly want to be together because Thomasin's aunt will not allow them to be together. So, their only choice would be to run away.
I think that the reason why marriage was so strict back then was because everyone seemed to live in a small place, where everyone could easily find out their business. So, maybe so that no one could find out anything that would make their family look bad, they made sure that their daughters would marry men who would not make a mockery of the family. They also wanted to make sure the wedding was perfect, so that they could invite anyone they wanted without having to worry about ridicule and other people in the town would envy such a wedding.
