Derrick: Provide a more well guide question next time so that your group and really dig their teeth into the material. Also use paragraphs.

Brett and Heather: Need more. Go deeper. For instance, Heather, why might the date of 1801 help explain why Lockwood wants to befriend his landlord?

I agree that Mr. Lockwood is not quite socially aware. He seems to be awkward and it does’t seem like he knows how to act around new acquaintances. I also find it strange that Mr. Lockwood wants to get to know his landlord, but not that odd. He may just want to be in good standings with him should anything happen to the property or he wants to change something around with it.

As I have read on, I have discovered that the next part of the book, starting in chapter four, Mrs. Dean is narrating what seems to be a flashback to when she was younger. She continues to tell the story from her point of view, starting back when she was just a little girl. This is how Mr. Lockwood becomes “filled in” about his landlord’s early and present life.

I agree that the absense of Lockwood’s past is strange. To me, it’s almost shady, like he’s hiding something, because he never says anything about it.

The fact that Lockwood wants to know so much about Heathcliff is weird, but it might be because this story takes place in 1801 England.

I also think it is odd that his past is uknonwn. Could it be that it is irrelevant.Or maybe it will come at later date. I think he is so eager because mr heathcliff is a man of power and power is very important to people.
