Return of the Native,Period 3,Connector

This story, Return of the Native, is pretty complicated to read. It reminds me of a book written by Jane Austen called “Pride and Prejudice.” They relate because of the wording first of all. The way the story is written, it sounds very proper and uses many different difficult words. Also, in “Pride and Prejudice,” it is very important to be an important person and to be married to an important person because it makes the family look good. So, that explains why Thomasin Yeobright’s family is embarrassed about the wedding getting mixed up. The family does not want to be ridiculed about the wedding because it is important to them and their daughter that their name keeps a good reputation. The way this connects to “Pride and Prejudice” is because the Bennett family wants one of their daughters to be married to a rich man who is new in town because then they’ll have bragging rights in their town and their name will be known all over. Therefore, the simalarities in both stories is the fight to have a good name by having a good wedding. My question for you is that in the end of part 10, the bride to be says that she will never give up on the husband to be. Do you think she really intends to be loyal to her future husband?

To answer your question about whether or not Thomasin Yeobright will stay with her groom to be, I believe that she will. I believe this because if she stuck with him after he made a mistake with the planning of their wedding, which is a huge dilema, then they’ll be able to stay together through almost anything. Plus, if Thomasin was bold enough to go against the wishes of her aunt then she must truly love her fiance. Also, if they have to deal with major problems before their wedding then they will be able to deal with other problems while they’re married.

I really like your connection and I am going to have to agree with Adam. I think that Thomasin and Damon will work things out and Thomasin will be mad at her aunt and not Damon because she said that she was interested in another man. That is not true and it makes her sound like a bad person, and that’s why she’d be angry at her aunt. Even though Damon is interested in Eustacia, I think he loves Thomasin much more, and he just wants someone to be with, because again, marriage is important in this community and time period. I think Eustacia will be a big obstacle to Damon and Thomasin, but I think Damon and Thomasin will end up together because Thomasin’s aunt lied.

I think that while Thomasin will be loyal to Damon, Damon can not be trusted. He was already fooling around with Eustacia behind Thomasins back, and that you cannot build a marriage on lies. I think that Thomasin is a good person, and will try her best to be loyal, but will be let down by Damon. Good connections, keep it up.

Laurisa: Good start. Be aware of some wording issues and repetitive word choice. Also, your question should relate more directly to the rest of your post. And demonstrate how the connection deepens your own understanding of the novel at hand.

Adam, Mallory, and Brian: More! Explain yourselves more fully. Why do you like her connection? Why is Thomasin a good person, so on and so forth. And don’t be afraid, since you all posted pretty early, to come back and respond to each others’ comments. And also be aware of avoiding spelling and grammatical mistakes.
